Recreation - Creative is only offered at Year 11. It provides practical learning experiences in the technical areas of performing arts with a main focus on sound and lighting.
This course includes opportunities to use new and developing skills in sound and lighting in authentic performance contexts.
Acceptance into this course is with approval by the HOD’s of Drama/Dance and Music and the DP of Teaching and Learning. It can be taken in conjunction with any other Year 11 Performing Arts course (Drama/Dance/Music) as it is complementary to the skills that are learnt in those courses.
The topics that students should expect to study in 2024 include:
Sound recording in a working Music Studio
Set up and operation of sound equipment for performances
Technical lighting skills (types of light fixtures, rigging, programming, console operation)
Design lighting skills (light, focus, colour, purpose)
Using sound and lighting in combination for a variety of performance types
Other topics that may be covered if students indicate interest include:
Creative writing for the stage
Using sound and lighting for video purposes
Instrumental or vocal performance
The course will include participation in the technical side of school performing arts events and may include trips to relevant locations such as theatres and recording studios.
