Course description:
“Through studying Mathematics and Statistics, you will learn how to create models and predict outcomes, to conjecture, to justify and verify and to seek patterns and generalisations.” (NZC 2007)
This course is for you if you feel that you are competent using and applying algebraic skills and concepts but would not cope with the full academic course. The content of this course will include algebra, probability and statistics.
Course of study:
As a Level 2 Mathematics student, you will study concepts and skills connected within and across a selection of the following topics:
Algebra.
Probability.
Co-ordinate Geometry.
Statistics.
Trigonometry.
Assessment:
Internal – up to 13 credits at NCEA Level 2.
External – up to 4 credits at NCEA Level 2.

Workbook: up to $60
Graphics calculator: Casio fx-8200AU (approx $80) or Casio fx-9860GIII (approx $150) or similar
Entry criteria:
Entry into this course will be based on your Year 11 Mathematics results. To be successful in this course, you need to have attained your Numeracy co-requisites as well as gained merit in your Inference report and Chance and Data assessment. Entry is at the discretion of the HOD Mathematics.
Future pathways:
This course is a possible pre-requisite for the Level 3 Statistics course at Dio.
Curriculum Update:
The NZ Mathematics Curriculum may be updated at the end of 2025. At this stage, the current course details are correct but will be adjusted to accommodate for the Curriculum Refresh requirements.
