Course description:
In Physical Education, students examine the factors that influence physical performance and strive to encourage physical activity within their communities. They have the opportunity to participate in a diverse range of physical activities and advance knowledge from Level 2 in regards to body systems, training programs, and methods to enhance performance for both themselves and others. Students will apply this knowledge to various situations, emphasising critical inquiry and socio-cultural evaluations for most achievement standards.
Course of study:
analysing performance of self or a peer.
work to improve your own performance by participating in a performance improvement programme.
analyse issues in safety management.
explore current trends or issues in sport and the impact on NZ society.
devise strategies for life-long wellbeing.
demonstrate quality performance.
Assessment:
Internal – up to 18 Achievement Standard credits at NCEA Level 3 and University Entrance
This course offers some University Entrance Literacy Reading credits
Costs:
Course fee of $350 (confirmed early 2026)
Covers a range of pursuits that enable students to learn through a variety of movement contexts including tramping and outdoors experiences, sports and exercise science experiences, guest speakers and sporting competitions.
Entry criteria:
It is expected that students will have independent study skills to apply both the knowledge of principles and analysis of skills to given assignments. It is important that students have taken the Year 12 Sports Science course or at the sole discretion of the HOD of Physical Education and Health
Future pathways:
This course is on the list of university approved subjects (Physical Education), offering up to 18 Achievement Standard credits.
