Course description:
The Year 11 Dance course will be a practical and theoretical course where students can dance according to their own ability and work with a range of tasks towards performance and choreographic standards. Students have the opportunity to grow their technique but more particularly to develop their choreographic skills through using the Dance Elements in creating their own work. This course covers a large range of dance styles and genres. You can expect to participate in activities that develop dance and performance technique, choreography, dance knowledge and the history of dance.

Trips to performances at approx $75
There may be some costs involved for costuming
Entry criteria:
Year 10 Dance OR at the discretion of the TIC Dance.
Future pathways:
This course is a pre-requisite for the Level 2 Dance course at Dio (or at the discretion of TIC Dance).
Course of study:
In 2025, students of Dance should expect to study the following:
Composing dance sequences - you will use the elements of dance to compose choreographic sequences which reflect various briefs and then perform these sequences
Performing dance sequences - you will use performance techniques related to different genres or styles of dance that will be performed at Dance Showcase
Ensemble dance performance - you will perform a dance sequence that exhibits the skills to perform as part of a group. These skills will reflect timing and rhythm, spatial awareness and dynamics.
Dance knowledge - where written work will reflect your theoretical knowledge of dance in a performance context which reflects the dance elements, choreographic devices, technologies and dance techniques
