Course description:
Level 2 Chemistry lays the foundation for the formal study of this subject in its physical aspects (at the atomic level), its inorganic aspect (compounds not containing the element carbon) and organic aspect (compounds that do contain the element carbon). It is a practically-based course that underpins all the Level 3 Chemistry standards.
Course of study:
Structure and Bonding and Energy Changes.
Organic Chemistry.
Chemical Reactivity.
Chemical Processes.
Oxidation and Reduction.
Assessment:
Internal – up to 3 credits at NCEA Level 2.
External – up to 13 credits at NCEA Level 2.
Three Achievement Standards worth a total of 13 Literacy credits and one Standard worth four Numeracy credits.

Achieved in AS 90944 and AS 90947.
