Course description:
The role of economics is to make the world a better place for everyone – creating wealth and wellbeing, prosperity, jobs and choices. This course looks at how consumers and producers interact through the market. It is a stimulating, relevant course which encourages students to focus on the local and national economy. Students look closely at how producers make decisions, what might influence consumer activity and how these groups together form ‘the market’.
Course of study:
A range of the following topics will be covered:
Demand – why we buy what we buy.
Producers – why does Whittakers choose to be fairtrade accredited?
Supply – what influences producers to make their products?
Marketing Mix – how businesses encourage us to buy their products.
The Market – how prices are set.
Government influence on the market.
