Chemistry is everything from the materials that make your cell phone possible to the molecules in your DNA. It helps us to understand our world and everything related to it by investigating the material components of our environment and making sense of them in logical and creative ways. It occupies a central position in the science group of subjects. It is necessary not only in those careers directly related to it, but also as background to other physical, biological and applied science careers. A study of Chemistry emphasises developing knowledge and an understanding that all materials (solids, liquids and gases) are chemical substances (natural or synthetic). From the air we breathe to the vehicles we drive, EVERYTHING IS CHEMISTRY.
