Course description:
At this level you will study both micro economics (the individual consumer or business in New Zealand) and macro economics (the whole country and its interaction with the rest of the world). The skill of reasoning clearly by means of analytical techniques allows students to present and interpret economic data and arguments in a clear, coherent manner.
Course of study:
Economic problem of market allocation.
The behaviour of the firm.
New Zealand and the global economy.
Assessment:
Internal – 10 credits at NCEA Level 3.
External – 10 credits at NCEA Level 3.
For students taking Scholarship, the course will be made up of 24 credits at Level 3. An additional Achievement Standard is covered by students sitting Scholarship.

Entry criteria:
Economics at Level 2; otherwise at the discretion of the TIC Economics, who will look to see if you have appropriate achievement levels in Mathematics and English. This decision will be made in consultation with your Dean, and conditions may apply.
Future pathways:
This course is on the list of university approved subjects, offering up to 20 Level 3 NCEA credits.
