Course description:
This course caters for beginners as well as advanced learners of accounting. It involves investigating accounting subsystems in a small business and preparing financial statements. Learn to use accounting software to process accounting data. This course is not only a stepping stone for those wanting a career in accountancy and business, but it also teaches skills needed to operate a small business if self-employment is to be considered in the future.
Course of study:
The following topics are included:
Study of accounting subsystems.
Preparation of financial information for a sole proprietor registered for GST on the invoice basis.
Analyse, interpret and evaluate financial information for a sole proprietor business.
Assessment:
Internal – up to 8 NCEA Level 2 credits.
External – up to 9 NCEA Level 2 credits.

Workbooks: approx. $15
Revision Learning Workbook (optional): approx $33
Entry criteria:
NCEA Level 1 Accounting is desirable but not essential.
Future pathways:
This course is not a prerequisite for Level 3 Accounting, but it is recommended. Entry into Level 3 Accounting is at the discretion of the HOD.
