Course description:
This course offers the opportunity to experience and participate in a wide range of physical activities, in a variety of contexts. Students study how the body moves and responds to physical activity, as well as developing leadership skills in a variety of settings. This course equips students with the necessary knowledge and skills to maintain and develop personal well-being, both now and in the future; as well as preparing students for future academic and vocational opportunities.
A range of physical activities will be utilised to give students the opportunities to learn in, through and about movement, and be assessed against Achievement Standards. They may include white water rafting, tramping, golf lessons and golf experience, and aquathon.
Course of study:
The following topics will be covered:
Anatomy, Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology.
Sports Psychology.
Methods and Principles of training.
Sports performance.
Outdoor Education Safety management.
Event management.
Assessment:
Internal – up to 19 credits at NCEA Level 2.
Costs:
Course fee of $300 (confirmed early 2026)
Covers a range of pursuits that enable students to learn through a variety of movement contexts including white water rafting, tramping and outdoors experiences, Les Mills fitness classes, professional coaching lessons for biomechanics assessment.
Entry criteria (2025):
Achieved ¾ of the Year 11 SES assessments as well as the Anatomy formative assessment. Entry may also be granted with approval from the HOD of PE.

If you are considering taking Level 3 Sport & Exercise Science, it is strongly recommended that you take this course.
