Course description:
The focus of Level 2 History is major events in the 20th century. We enter an era of ‘isms’ and discover how forces such as fascism, communism and nationalism have influenced our lives today. In this course, you will develop a deeper understanding of how people’s interpretations of events differ and the significance of these differing perspectives.
Course of study:
The Weimar Republic and the Nazi State – find out how Germany was transformed from a democratic republic into a ruthless dictatorship and learn about life within Nazi Germany.
The Holocaust – explore why one of the most advanced cultures in the world carried out the systematic and mechanised murder of 6 million Jews.
Assessment:
Internal – up to 14 credits at NCEA Level 2.
External – up to 9 credits at NCEA Level 2.
All Level 2 History Achievement Standards meet Level 2 Literacy requirements.
Costs: Nil
Entry criteria:
14 credits in either Level 1 History or Level 1 English, including at least 4 credits in an essay standard.
Future pathways:
This course is not a pre-requisite for any other course at Dio. However, this is a recommended course if you are considering taking this subject in the future.
