Course description:
This is the course for you if you enjoy and feel competent using and applying algebraic skills and concepts. It is an academic course which establishes the basis for tertiary study in Mathematics and Statistics.
Course of study:
As a Level 2 Advanced Mathematics student, you will study concepts and skills connected within and across the following topics:
Algebra.
Probability.
Calculus.
Graphs.
Trigonometry.
Assessment:
Internal – up to 6 credits at NCEA Level 2.
External – up to 13 credits at NCEA Level 2.
Costs:
Homework book, workbook and study guides: up to $50
Graphics Calculator: Casio fx-9860GIII (approx $150) or similar
Entry criteria:
Entry into this course will be based on your Level 1 Mathematics results. In order to be successful in this course, you will need at least Merit passes in Level 1 Delta Algebra and Graphing assessments. Entry is at the discretion of the HOD Mathematics.
Future pathways:
This course is a pre-requisite for the Level 3 Mathematics with Calculus and/or the Level 3 Statistics or Advanced Statistics courses at Dio.
Curriculum Update:
The NZ Mathematics Curriculum may be updated at the end of 2025. At this stage, the current course details are correct but will be adjusted to accommodate for the Curriculum Refresh requirements.
