In mid-April 2024, the Government announced the rollout of the NCEA change package would be further delayed. NCEA Level 1 changes were introduced this year, but the subsequent NCEA Level 2 will not be implemented until 2028. In essence, this would mean that students sitting the new NCEA Level 1 standards in 2025 would enter into the old NCEA system and sit Level 2 achievement standards that are not part of the NCEA change package.
To that end, with the academic well-being of our students front and centre, Dio will not be offering NCEA Level 1 to students in 2025. Instead, our teaching and learning will focus on preparing students for NCEA Level 2 in 2026, ensuring a greater depth of undertaking and mastery of subjects. The teaching and learning programs for students in Year 11 in 2025 will follow very similar frameworks and progression to which already exist - including summative assessment and examinations. Year 11s will remain at school in term 4 until late November.

This makes a programme of SIX subjects in total.
For students wishing to take 5 subjects you should speak to your Dean or Mrs Peters - HOD Learning Support. You will take either of the following as your 6th subject:

Level 1 Literacy Requirement
10 credits through new Literacy co-requisites:
Literacy: Read written texts to understand ideas and information (5 credits)
Literacy: Write texts to communicate ideas and information. (5 credits)
Level 1 Numeracy Requirement
10 credits through new Numeracy co-requisites:
Numeracy: Use mathematics and statistics to meet the numeracy demands of a range of situations (10 credits)
