Course description:
The Level 2 Drama course is a continuation of the learning in Year 11 Drama, as students build on previously learnt skills. At this level, students are encouraged to explore how drama reflects the world in which we live and how it can be used to make change. They are given opportunities to research, critically evaluate, and refine ideas to develop drama in specific dramatic forms. They are challenged to think about their own values and what they care about and then to create and perform drama that matters. Level 2 Drama is a thematic programme that focuses on issue-based theatre
Course of study:
Students in Level 2 Drama can expect to study the following:
Drama techniques – you will use techniques in performance, using scripts that may be interpreted in many different ways.
Elements and conventions of drama – you will devise a short drama performance based on an issue that affects our world.
Perform an acting role – you will prepare for and carry out a substantial acting role in a scripted production.
Drama knowledge – you will discuss drama elements, techniques, conventions and technologies within live performance.
Assessment:
Internal – up to 14 credits at NCEA Level 2.
External – up to 4 credits at NCEA Level 2.
Costs:
Trips to performances: up to $75
Entry criteria:
Year 11 NCEA Drama is strongly recommended.
If the entry criteria are not met, entry will be at the discretion of the HOD, in consultation with the Dean. Conditions may apply.
Future pathways:
This course is a pre-requisite for the Level 3 Drama course at Dio.
