Course description:
This course is the most academic of the Level 1 Mathematics courses. It has an extra focus on Algebra.
The tools acquired in this course “have a broad range of practical applications; they are used in other learning areas and in many work places.” (NZC 2007)
In this course, your mathematical knowledge and skills are extended through problem solving and applications in all curriculum strands. This course builds on previous years and provides a sound basis for further academic study. While fluent mathematical knowledge and skills are vital, there is a significant emphasis on communicating mathematical ideas and applying models to real life situations.
Course of study:
As a Level 1 Mathematics student, you will study concepts and skills connected within and across the following strands:
Number and Algebra.
Geometry and Measurement.
Statistics.

Homework book, workbook and study guides: up to $50
Graphics Calculator: Casio fx-9860GIII (approx $150) or similar
Entry criteria:
Entry into this course will be based on your Year 10 Mathematics results and is at the discretion of the HOD Mathematics, in consultation with your Dean.
Future pathways:
This course is a pre-requisite for the Level 2 Advanced Mathematics course and any Level 3 Mathematics courses at Dio.
