Southern Institute of Technology
SIT offers a wide range of courses. Students are able to choose their course content, depending on their interests and career pathway. Students studying through SIT will need to be independent learners. They will complete online workbooks and assessments.
There are restrictions to accessing some of these courses. Please note: Subjects, or similar subjects to those already offered at Waikato Diocesan School are exempt.
All assessments are unit standards and are to be completed at school.
SIT courses include:
Health and Wellbeing
Beauty Therapy and Hair Dressing
Business, Retail and Workplace skills
Animal Care (requires student to be connected with veterinary clinic)
For more information on individual courses, go to: SIT Courses
Annika Te Anga - Southern Institute of Technology
This year is my second year of being in the HUB, and I have been working through various Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) Health and Wellbeing papers. There are heaps of options for Health papers that range from disability and aged care to mental health and youth culture. These assessments can be handwritten or online, and are submitted through a platform called Blackboard where you will receive your grade. I have enjoyed the SIT papers and find Blackboard to be easy to use and submit work.
HUB is a great option for students who don’t necessarily fit into the normal learning style, or have a clear direction for their future that standard subjects do not necessarily match up with. In future, I want to be a social worker in the youth or justice sector, so being able to sit papers relevant to my vocational pathway has supported and motivated me to work hard in and out of class. Being in HUB and sitting papers through SIT has helped me to understand that you don’t have to go to University to be successful or have a fulfilling career.
Each course offered in Hub is also very independent, and while both teachers are always available and willing to help out whenever, everything is up to you. This has helped me to learn how to balance my time effectively while keeping on top of all my other subjects and responsibilities.
