Course description:
The Level 2 Textile & Design programme takes on a broad, global context and the role of textile technology and properties is explored. Students are exposed to various ideas about dress, apparel, style, trends and fashion, which are researched and interpreted, resulting in a variety of student outcomes.
Course of study:
Use the characteristics of a design movement or era to inform own design ideas.
Develop a conceptual design for an outcome.
Implement advanced procedures using textile materials.
Generate design ideas using visual communication techniques to explore aesthetic and functional possibilities.
Opportunities exist to extend students’ design capabilities by entering local and national competitions in garment design and/or construction.
Assessment:
Assessment will be in the form of a portfolio of evidence selected from a range of Technology Achievement Standards. A portfolio is an organised collection of evidence that communicates the candidate’s knowledge and understanding relevant to Textile & Design.
Internal – up to 18 credits at NCEA Level 2.
External – up to 4 credits at NCEA Level 2.

Materials: $40 per term.
Entry criteria:
Level 1 Textile & Design, or Design & Visual Communication, would be an advantage, but is not essential. The Achievement Standards selected can be adapted to suit the experience of the students.
Future pathways:
This course can be continued into Level 3 Textile & Design or used as an entry level programme for external programmes in tertiary institutions.
