So as a professional psychotherapist I am often asked by my clients: Is it possible to overcome anxiety without using medications? Is it possible to heal from anxiety without using medications? And the answer is yes it is.
So medications have a place, but they should only be used as a short term way of managing the symptoms of anxiety. If you really want to recover from anxiety and you want to break free from your dependence on anxiety medications then you need to address the underlying psychological cause of your anxiety.
So anxiety, like any other form of emotional suffering including depression, is basically psychological in nature. It is caused by a psychological process. Now that process may be triggered by many different factors including a chemical imbalance in the body or brain, hormonal problems, and so on. There are many different types of triggers. But the important thing for you to understand is that those triggers trigger a psychological mechanism that creates the experience of anxiety and that is basically a habit. It's a psychological habit and that habit can be changed. And if you want to re recover from anxiety fully you have to change that habit. And that's what I focus on during my online therapy sessions for anxiety.
As an online therapist for anxiety, I will teach you how to apply mindfulness to heal that underlying habit that causes your anxiety. You do this by actively cultivating a conscious and compassionate relationship with our emotions. We effectively learn how to meditate on our anxiety. This is the best way to promote the healing and recovery from anxiety.
You have to change the way that you relate to it. You have to change from being reactive towards your anxiety to being compassionate towards your anxiety. If you fall into the habit of becoming reactive you simply feed the anxiety and it cannot heal. But if you generate and cultivate a relationship based on compassion with your anxiety then you create the right conditions that allow that anxiety to heal itself.
So it is the quality of your relationship with your anxiety that is the key factor for recovery from anxiety. The more that you can develop that compassionate relationship that is non-reactive, the more that you effectively teach the anxiety how to heal itself.
So we do this by meditating on our anxiety. We cultivate that quality of mindful relationship with it that allows it to learn how to heal itself. We can also help the anxiety heal by interacting with it. One of the most effective ways known for interacting with any kind of emotion, including anxiety and depression, is to interact with the imagery of that emotion.
So all emotions are based around imagery. It's how you see the emotion in the mind that really determines how strong that emotion is.
During our meditation on our anxiety we explore this imagery and then we explore changing the imagery. Because when you change that imagery you change the emotion.
So that's one of the methods that we can employ to help the anxiety learn how to change itself, by changing his imagery.

So if you're looking for an online therapist to help you overcome anxiety, I invite you to take a look at my website and learn more about the online Mindfulness Therapy service that I offer over Skype for the treatment of anxiety without using medications and without other procedures like that.
This is a very different kind of approach, one that focuses on teaching you how to work with your emotions more effectively using the techniques of Mindfulness Therapy, including mindfulness meditation.
So the way that I teach meditation is that you learn how to meditate on the mind and in this case on your emotions and specifically on your anxiety. You have to develop a very close and conscious relationship with your emotions if you want them to heal. The biggest problem that I see is that people try to run away from their anxiety and fear. Trying to avoid anxiety and trying to escape from anxiety producing situations is not a good strategy.
The avoidance is classified as a form of reactivity, emotional reactivity that is itself based on fear. And so if you react to anxiety with avoidance, you are basically feeding that underlying anxiety with more fear. So avoidance is not a suitable strategy.
Medications also can be viewed as a form of avoidance. They may provide a temporary relief from the unpleasant sensations of anxiety, but that is not an effective treatment for anxiety. The medications are really just reinforcing that underlying anxiety.
So if you want to heal anxiety, you must work on developing a conscious relationship with that anxiety that's not based on avoidance, but is based on being totally consciously present with that emotion and other associated emotions.
This is what I will teach you during our therapy sessions together. I will teach you how to develop a mindful presence with your anxiety. In that process you will be training out of the primary process of reactive identification that also feeds the anxiety.
You learn to be present with your anxiety without becoming identified with it. That means without becoming overwhelmed and consumed by that anxiety. We learn how to develop a conscious presence with our anxiety in which we remain free from that anxiety.
So this is an essential condition if you want to heal anxiety, you have to learn how to be present for your anxiety in the same way as a parent learns to be present with a child that's suffering. You cannot avoid the child's pain, you must be present with it if you want to help that child heal its suffering. Our emotions are very much like a child. They are conditioned, they are very limited in the consciousness and are not very good at resolving their own suffering, just like a child, the child doesn't have the resources to heal its own suffering. That's what the parent is for. So we have to learn to be like a parent to our anxiety and to any other emotions that are causing suffering.
And this is the whole purpose of meditation.
Meditation means learning to be present with your anxiety by focusing your mindful attention on that anxiety and then bringing in the qualities of fearlessness and love, which is the natural condition of your True Self.
You learn to comfort the anxiety, you learn to look at the structure of the anxiety and see how it works, and then you intervene in a way that helps that anxiety heal.
So building this internal relationship between your True Self and the anxiety or the Little Self is a vital process and it's very, very effective for healing anxiety. And I will teach you how to do this in detail.
Most people see quite dramatic changes when they start applying mindfulness and particularly this form of mindfulness meditation on the anxiety itself. Typically, you can expect to see dramatic improvements after the first three or four sessions. This is what we should be aiming for. Psychotherapy should be aimed at helping you heal. Just talking about your emotions is not sufficient, in my opinion, to promote efficient long-term healing. You must look at the underlying mechanism of that imagery and the patterns of reactivity and identification that feeds anxiety.
So if you would like to make real changes and produce long-term changes in your anxiety or other emotions that are affecting you in some way, then do please contact me and we can schedule some Skype therapy sessions. Thank you.

I will teach you how to apply mindfulness to overcome anxiety. This approach is very very effective. It's designed to teach you mindfulness-based methods for working with reactive thoughts and with your emotions themselves. We have to learn how to control habitual reactive thinking because that's one of the main factors that fuels anxiety.
So that's very important, but we also use mindfulness to work on the emotions themselves. You learn to meditate on your anxiety. This is the most effective way to heal the anxiety. We don't want to just put up with it. We don't want to indulge it. We want to heal it and there's no better method than learning how to meditate on your anxiety. So I'll teach you how to do that during these online therapy sessions.

Welcome. My name is Peter Strong and I provide online mindfulness therapy for the treatment of anxiety and depression and addictions. But mostly people come to me for help with anxiety disorders. This is by far the most common problem that most people struggle with. So if you're interested in mindfulness therapy for overcoming an anxiety disorder do please reach out to me by e-mail. Go to my website, learn more about Mindfulness Therapy and how it can help you overcome your anxiety disorder.
So anxiety disorders, generally, describe problems that are persistent, that are chronic in nature. It's not the short term anxiety that we might experience for example giving a presentation or something like that. We are concerned with persistent recurrent anxiety. So generalized anxiety disorder is one kind of very common anxiety that is characterized by chronic worrying, just catastrophizing, just basically a form of anxiety that is characterized by the proliferation of anxiety based thoughts that just keep feeding that anxiety in a vicious circle. Social anxiety disorder as another anxiety disorder that I work with is also based on a whole network of habitual reactive thoughts and beliefs that feeds a basic underlying insecurity in social situations.
And it is very important to work with your anxiety disorder and not let it grow and gain strength, because it tends to continue to grow if not checked. It's like a weed. And if you don't take care of it it will start to limit you more and more. Because one of the key problems that people experience when they're suffering from an anxiety disorder is they start to get into patterns of avoidance and aversion, that is trying to run away from the anxiety. They try to limit their exposure to anxiety producing situations. They try to avoid the source.
The only effective method to overcome an anxiety disorder like generalized anxiety disorder or social anxiety disorder or obsessive compulsive disorder as well is by actually not avoiding it but actually facing it very directly, very head on. But in a strategic way. Not just allowing yourself to become overwhelmed by the anxiety.
Then we choose to meditate on each of those thoughts. So this is developing non-avoidance. This is developing that conscious relationship. We learn to see the anxiety producing thought as an object in the mind, which is what it is, what it always was to begin with. We see it as an object that gets triggered in the mind and it arises in the mind. And our job is to see it clearly without identifying with it, without trying to push it away.
So we develop a conscious relationship with it, as if we hold that thought in a space and we embrace it in that space but without feeding it through reactivity. That is what produces change. And it can be very quick as well in producing changes and basically undoing that habit of reactive thinking that feeds the anxiety.
So we deliberately meditate on our anxiety thoughts, we don't avoid them. The second part of mindfulness therapy involves looking at the structure of those thoughts. Besides the proliferation of reactive thinking around the anxiety we also look at the actual structure, the internal structure of the anxiety itself, and that structure is in the form of imagery.
So all emotions are based around imagery, that is what holds them together in the mind, gives them structure and investigating that imagery is a very, very effective way of neutralizing the anxiety habit, the anxiety reactions, to begin with.
So to learn more simply e-mail me and to schedule a session simply tell me what times and days work for you and we can then go ahead and schedule the first therapy session. Most people see quite dramatic changes after that very first session and certainly within three or four sessions you can expect to see major improvements and a major reduction in the level of anxiety that's affecting you. So please reach out to me by email and let's schedule an online mindfulness therapy session for your anxiety. Thank you.
