Robert Hesseltine Jr.

Robert Hesseltine Jr. was born in Thirsk, Yorkshire, in 1813. His father, Robert, and mother, Elizabeth, were both 28 at the time of his birth. 

He won the 1843 Doncaster Cup on Alice Hawthorn, a horse which he also trained throughout her entire career. He also won the Queen’s Vase in 1844 on the same horse.

Robert Jr. married Elizabeth Lancaster on 19 September 1846, in Cold Kirby, Yorkshire.

He died at Hambleton House, Malton, on 3 April 1854, aged 41, and was buried in his hometown of Thirsk.

His elder brother, Len Hesseltine, born on April 10, 1790, was also a jockey. He died in May 1842, aged 52, and was also buried in Thirsk.
