Bill Holman

1810 - 1888


Bill Holman was born on January 15, 1810, and became a leading member of the Cheltenham racing set and the founder of a NH family.

His six sons included three professional NH jockeys, George, Alfred & John. Another two sons, Walter & Frederick, were amateurs.

Bill Holman won the Cheltenham Grand Annual five times:

1841 - Zeno

1842 - Stanmore

1843 - The Page

1847 - Stanmore

1852 - Sir Peter Laurie

Bill also trained three Grand National winners: Freetrader 1856, Little Charley 1858 & Anatis 1860.

He died on Jan 11, 1888, leaving £1,566.
