Peter Henton

1933 - 2007


National Hunt jockey Peter William Henton was born in Epsom on March 12, 1933. He held a licence for four seasons during the 1950s. He rode for Ryan Price and Jack Holt and scored his one and only victory on Holt’s handicap chaser Retlaw at Plumpton on Easter Monday, April 19, 1954.

After retiring from the saddle, he became head lad to Alan Oughton. He then spent many years as head groom to Guy Harwood.

Peter died on April 12, 2007 in Cheltenham, aged 74. He was survived by wife Shirley, whom he had married in January 1956, daughter Sarah and sons Lester and Philip.
