He scored his first victory at Market Rasen on September 24, 1988, when Lovelyroseofclare led three furlongs out and comfortably won the Grunwick N.H. Flat Race by 12 lengths. The four-year-old had won a similar contest at Warwick seven days earlier when ridden by Lydia Pearce, the trainer’s wife.

It was not until November 23, 1990 that he had his second success when Officer Growler held the challenge of Dolly Wardance to take the Waltham Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle at Leicester by a neck.

Officer Growler was trained by Di Haine, and it was she who also supplied Colin with his third and final winner when, following a gap of some three and a half years, he drove six-year-old Polish Rider home to take the Amberley Novices’ Hurdle (Division 2) at Fontwell Park on April 21, 1994, scoring by a neck. Polish Rider started at 50-1, having shown little in two previous starts that season with Colin aboard. He kept the ride and was placed three times from four subsequent starts. He did not renew his licence the following season.
