James Hudson

1832 - 1897

Born at Radcliffe, near Manchester, James suffered a bad accident when riding at Chantilly in 1880 whilst riding Brienne.

He switched to training and enjoyed much success.

James had been a successful jockey in England, having won the 1869 Ayr Gold Cup (Good Hope) and the 1869 Queen's Vase on Thorwaldsen.

He also rode a classic winner, dead-heating for the Oaks in 1876 on Enguerrande.

In France he won the Grand Prix de Paris twice; 1877 (St Christopher) & 1879 (Nubienne).

James died in Chantilly in December 1897.
