Lawrence Hanson

1933 - 2012

Born in 1933, Lawrence Gilbert Hanson rode under National Hunt rules from the mid-1950s to the early 1960s. He also held a Flat jockey’s licence in 1955 and 1956 and, following a ten-year gap, in 1966 and 1967. He rode just three winners, one over fences, one over hurdles and one on the Flat.

He was initially based with Eric Cousins and rode his first winner on novice chaser Kamver at Market Rasen on Boxing Day 1955. His second came courtesy of handicap hurdler Hindhead, trained by Bill Marshall, at Windsor in November 1957, one of just a dozen mounts he had that season.

Thereafter he remained with Bill Marshall and, having renewed his Flat jockey’s licence in 1966, rode his one and only winner in that sphere on Czaremont in the Portobello Selling Handicap at Edinburgh on June 20. He held a licence for one more season but had no further success.

Lawrence Hanson died in 2012.

His winners were:

1. Kamver, Market Rasen, December 26, 1955

2. Hindhead, Windsor, November 27, 1957

3. Czaremont, Edinburgh, June 20, 1966
