Edward Hughes

Riding at Roscommon on Thursday 12 August 1852, Edward Hughes was fatally injured when falling from his mount Brunette. The mare struck him on the head as he fell, fracturing his skull. He was speedily conveyed to hospital where he died the same evening. At an inquest the next day, Coroner Lewis Ormby heard that the unfortunate jockey had left a wife and seven young children to lament his loss.
