The best horse he rode here was a chaser named Ebor, on which he won ten races, including his first six. In 1898 he rode him to win the Sunbury Handicap Chase at Kempton in January, and the Berkshire Handicap Steeplechase at Windsor in March.

He also won eight times on Norton and finished third on him in the 1896 Grand Sefton Chase over the Liverpool fences. He rode Norton in the 1897 Grand National but was among the fallers. His second Grand National mount was Grudon, who finished seventh behind Drogheda in 1898. Grudon would go on to win the race in 1901, when partnered by Arthur Nightingall.
