Fred Hunter Jr.

The son of Fred Hunter, a former leading Irish jockey, Fred Jr - together with his twin brother Maurice and younger brother Johnny - was apprenticed to Stanley Wootton at Epsom.

Born in Brownstown on the Curragh on November 4, 1914, a notable victory came on Ballywellbroke when beating the Gordon Richards-ridden Gracious Gift in the Home-Bred Plate at Gatwick on June 14, 1935.

This was also the year in which he scored four times on the flying two-year-old, Beagle G.

Those aside, he did not win a single race of note during his career.

On May 25, 1933, Fred met with a serious accident at Brighton.

Fred began training in August 1956, and sent out his first winner, Brooksby Belle, at Birmingham on October 1, 1956. Fred's brother, Johnny, was often legged-up on the stable's runners.

John's biggest success was on Blow Horn in the 1955 Welsh Grand National.

Fred Hunter Jr. died in 1966.
