Gerald Hardy

1907 - 1993

The son of a horsedealer, Gerald Hardy was born at Blandford, Dorset on December 30, 1907, and was apprenticed to R. J. Farquharson.

He failed to ride a winner on the Flat: his first success in the saddle came at Kempton on January 29, 1926, when riding Pink Star.

Gerald then became a leading jockey over the sticks until breaking a leg in a fall at Plumpton in 1935.

He then began training at Epsom in 1936.

Gerald was twice runner-up in the NH jockey table, 1931-32 & 1933-34.

He won the 1932 Champion Chase on Colliery Band, the 1932 Scottish Grand National on Clydesdale and the 1931 Molyneux Chase on Colliery Band.

Gerald Hardy died in North Dorset in May 1993 aged 85.
