Jack Haslam rode 16 winners under National Hunt rules during the 1950s. He started with a narrow victory on Boulevard II, owned and trained by John Morant at Brockenhurst, Hampshire, in the St David’s Three-Year-Old Hurdle at Devon & Exeter on September 10, 1952, beating Nuts And Wine, the mount of John Foster, by a head.

Morant provided Jack with all five of his victories that season, including two on Tout Fou, at Worcester and Towcester. He also rode Tout Fou in the 1953 Imperial Cup at Sandown, finishing unplaced.

In addition, Morant supplied his first of the 1953/54 campaign when Boulevard II obliged at Newton Abbot in August. However, by the start of the New Year he was riding for Weyhill trainer Gerald Balding, for whom he recorded a double at Taunton on February 20, 1954, landing the Thurlbeare Chase on Balkan Catch and the Thornfalcon Hurdle on Criterion, the second of which was his tenth success in all, resulting in his claim being cut to 5lb. He finished the season with a score of six.

Jack rode four winners in the 1953/54 campaign. Sadly, the following season produced just a solitary – and final – success, when Magic Note, owned and trained by Gordon Powell at Lichfield, won the Dee Novices’ Hurdle at Bangor on April 7, 1956. He did not renew his licence the following season.
