She started her career as a conditional with trainer Chris Bell and had a somewhat hollow first victory when Randomly walked over for the Oxmoor Kentucky Handicap Chase at Towcester on November 25, 1989. The ten-year-old had not been seen since April 1988 and Rachel never rode him again.

At Kelso on December 20, 1990 the five-year-old Whitwood, also trained by Chris Bell, made all the running and held the challenge of Galloway Raider to land the Birgham Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle by two lengths. Again, that was the only time Rachel rode him, and she had few opportunities thereafter.
