Georgina Herbert rode one winner in a career over jumps that lasted less than 18 months.
She was last of eight finishers on her first ride when Rodooso, owned and trained by Epperstone, near Nottingham permit holder Frank Coton, was well behind in the Autumn Conditional Jockeys’ Selling Handicap Hurdle at Stratford on October 20, 1984.
Georgina kept the ride and, following another unplaced effort at Nottingham, they recorded a shock 33/1 victory at Leicester on December 17, 1984 when leading all the way to beat Gold Hunter by five lengths in the Christmas Conditional Jockeys’ Selling Handicap Hurdle. Four subsequent outings did not go so well, resulting in pulled up, ran out, last and fell.
Georgina persevered during the following season but her last ride ended with Rodooso beating just one rival in the Weresley Conditional Jockeys’ Selling Handicap Hurdle at Huntingdon on March 26, 1986.
At least Georgina had that Leicester victory to remember. It was also a rare success for Frank Coton, whose best horse had been the chaser Dorenco, a regular performer during the 1960s when partnered by amateur rider Hugh Marples.
