Frank Hooley

Frank Hooley

Frank Hooley only had 15 rides during the 1963/64 National Hunt season, but he made one of them count when steering Half Change to victory in the Glaisnock Handicap Chase at Ayr on October 12, 1963.

Trained by Verly Bewicke for Lord Cadogan, seven-year-old Half Change had Frank in the saddle for the first time and, taking the lead after the third fence, they won unchallenged by 12 lengths from Tin Tacks, the mount of Gerry Scott.

Despite that Ayr success, Frank did not ride Half Change again. He held a licence for just one more season and never rode another winner.

Frank's solitary win: Half Free at Ayr, October 12 1963
