John Huber

John Michael Huber was born on December 29, 1944, and was apprenticed to Alec Kerr at Dorking, Surrey. He rode his first winner on First National in a Birmingham apprentices’ race on September 25, 1961.

He went to ride in Scandinavia and had some success both on the Flat and over jumps, returning to Britain in the late 1960s as a 3lb claimer and riding for a couple of seasons under National Hunt rules for Findon trainer Alan Oughton. He rode six winners from 54 rides in the 1968/69 season, beginning with Cincinnati Kid in a Windsor novices’ chase in December 1968.

He subsequently moved back to Scandinavia to continue his riding career and eventually became a trainer there. He gained one of his most important successes as a trainer when sending out the former British-trained sprinter Gruffyd to win Sweden’s Jagersro Sprint in 1982.
