Nathan Horrocks

Nathan Horrocks, son of jockey Alan, first rode in public at Edinburgh on Monday 4 December 1995. Riding Chantry Beath in the Gorebridge Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle. He won at 5/1.

Nathan had his first ride at the Cheltenham Festival when partnering 16/1 shot Patras, on whom he’d won races at Uttoxeter, Haydock Park and Newcastle, in the 2000 Coral Cup Hurdle. They trailed in 21st of the 26 runners.

He retired from the saddle after riding Magnatism in a National Hunt Flat race at Sedgefield on Thursday 25 July 2002.

Nathan contacted the Jockeys Employment & Training Scheme (JETS) subsequently becoming sales director of a firm called Classic Boots. He then became an on-course representative for Betfair.

Speaking in October 2008, Nathan said “I had invaluable help from JETS at the end of my race riding career, without which I would never have got the job at Betfair or had the confidence to run my own business. I only wish I had contacted them at the start of my career because I reckon those skills would also have made me a better jockey.”

However, Nathan’s subsequent career has proven far more successful than his time in the saddle or his roles with Classic Boots or Betfair. He is an award-winning freelance film director and has gained plaudits for his productions, which include ‘Many Clouds: The People’s Horse’ (2017), ‘The Fall’ (2021) and ‘Horsepower’ (2022).

On the television front, he played apprentice electrician Dennis Bayliss in a January 2020 episode of ‘Vera’.
