Born on January 10, 1968, Glenn Robert Douglas Heaver rode under National Hunt rules for nearly a decade from the mid-1980s to early 90s and won 14 races. He was also successful once on the Flat.
He began as a conditional with former jockey John Davies who trained at Worthing in Sussex, and had his first ride at Fontwell Park on April 10, 1984, when Mistress Of Time was tailed off in the Lidsey Conditional Jockeys’ Selling Handicap Hurdle.
It was in a similar contest that he opened his account when the always prominent Ashleigh Boy took the lead three out and ran on strongly to take the Valley Conditional Jockeys’ Selling Handicap Hurdle at Wolverhampton on November 26, 1984 by a length and a half.
Progress was slow, never recording more than four wins in a single season. His one success on the Flat came at Lingfield on July 18, 1987, when La Cazadora, despite being inconvenienced by a slipping saddle, landed the Sidewalk Apprentice Selling Handicap by a length. It was the last winner Glenn rode for John Davies, and by the autumn he was based with Epsom trainer Reg Akehurst, for whom he won a couple of valuable prizes, notably the Lingfield Gold Cup, a hurdle race, on Monetary Fund.
Glenn’s final success was at Plumpton on October 20, 1992, when Green’s Van Goyen held off the challenge of course specialist Manhattan Boy to take the Coomes Handicap Hurdle by a length.
