Peter Haynes

Peter Denis Haynes was born in Aylesbury on February 9, 1951 and was a junior showjumper before joining Derek Kent as an amateur. He won the Hickstead Junior Championship in 1967.

He turned professional in 1972. His first winner was Eurotas at Fontwell on March 31, 1969.

He became a trainer, then a starter.

His son, Harry, was also a jumps jockey.

The best horse he rode was the New Zealand-bred Grand Canyon, on which he won six hurdle races between October 1975 and March 1976, including Ascot's SGB Hire Shop Hurdle, Sandown's Tolworth Hurdle, Huntingdon's Sidney Banks Memorial Hurdle & Doncaster's Rossington Main Hurdle.
