Alan Honeybone

1932 - 2001


Alan Honeybone, who came from a family of clockmakers, was born at Reading on August 17, 1932, and was apprenticed to Major J. Goldsmith.

Aged 15, he rode his first winner, Le Jacobin, at Birmingham on September 1, 1947. This was only his fourth ride.

He rode a total of 46 winners during his career, the last two coming within the space of 48 hours in April 1963, on Anna Pavlova at Stratford on April 27 and Langton Queen at Southwell on April 29. He held a licence for two more seasons but failed to ride another winner before retiring in 1964/65.

Alan died at Wantage in April 2001 aged 68.
