The Marincic family lived on the Muleshoe Ranch and in 1931, daughter Helena was born. Upon graduating in 1949, Helena attended and graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Home Economics. She then accepted a job in Gillette, Wyoming as a Home Demonstration Agent, now known as an Extension Agent.
In 1955, Helena married Bob Linn and they soon returned to the University of Wyoming where Bob earned his teaching degree. Until 1964, Bob was the Ag teacher at Worland and Ten Sleeps’ Schools. By the time of their return back to Big Piney, they had six children. In the years to come, these six children would welcome two more siblings to their family.
During this time, Helena did upholstery work as well as managing the Big Piney Motel. Bob and her bought a hardware store and a garbage hauling business. All of this while attending the many school activities and even driving a school bus for a number of years.
Writing, however, has always been Helena’s passion. In 2013, Bob passed away after fifty-eight wonderful and memorable years of marriage. According to Helena, “Now I do what I want or do nothing at all if I want”. She did not give up on her passion of writing. Helena has published three books and the many pioneer stories written about Sublette County’s life-long residents which has been rewarding to her. She is currently doing work on a homestead project for the Sublette County Historical Preservation Board which includes photographing and documenting all the homesteads in Sublette County.
Locally Helena has served on many boards including the Sublette County Library Board where she was highly involved with the building of the new Big Piney Library. She served on the Altar Society of the Council of Catholic Women for over fifty years including multiple terms as President. Helena also volunteered her time as a 4-H judge as well as working as a volunteer at the Green River Museum. Helena is always willing and ready to help. She did say however that she would have done more if they wouldn’t have so many meetings. She is a doer not a “talk about it” type of person.
Helena takes great pride in her family and the wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren and is especially proud of all of their accomplishments. For seventy-seven consecutive years, 1963-2013, Marincic children, grandchildren and great grandchildren attended Big Piney schools. The streak may have ended but it begins again as a Linn has entered kindergarten.
