Graduating in 1997, Casey Knotts’ accolades included a wide range of activities
ranging from football to cheerleading. Despite this wide range of disparity, Knotts
enjoyed great successes in each of them.
Perhaps greatest of his accomplishments would be found on the football field. As
a four-year letterman, Casey Knotts found himself starting on both offense and
defense for three years. He was voted to the Rocky Mountain All-Conference
team in each of those three years. He exceeded those honors by being named the
Wyoming 2A All-State team during his junior and senior seasons. The Casper Star -
Tribune took note of his talents and named him to their Super 25 second team as
a junior. Following his senior season, Knotts was named to the Super 25 as one of
the finest twenty-five high school players in the state of Wyoming. Knotts was
later selected to and participated on the South team in the 1997 Shrine Bowl. He
closed out his football career the following year playing at Chadron State
University.
As a trackster, Knotts qualified for the Wyoming State Track Meet for three years
in his specialties the shot and discus events. He finished at eighth place in the shot
during his senior campaign.
During the off season between football and track, Casey, along with a few other
Puncher boys, kept active in the athletic arena as a cheerleader for the prestigious
and renowned Big Piney cheerleading team. During this time, Big Piney was a
state leader in cheer with their high flying and stunt filled cheers. Although the
Wyoming High School Activities Association did not recognize cheer as a sanction
activity, Big Piney found competition under the auspices of Varsity Cheerleading
Association, there Big Piney Co-Ed Cheer Team brought home four straight State
championship trophies. It should be noted, the following year WHSAA recognized
cheer and Big Piney brought home the first ever Co-Ed Cheer State Championship.
