Bob Tanner graduated from Big Piney High School in 1957. He attended the University of Wyoming for two years. In 1959, he married Helen and settled in Marbleton where he raised three children; Dana, Kim and Bill.
Bob was in business with his father Francis at the Big Piney Mercantile. Since then, he has established the following businesses: Bowlmore Lanes, Pit and Primer Lounge and Supper Club, Waterhole #3 and the Marbleton Inn.
In 1961 at the age of 21, Bob was elected Mayor of Marbleton and was reelected again in 1991. During this term he has done a park that has enhanced the area significantly.
Bob was a member of the Big Piney Board of Trustees and the Wyoming State School Board Association. He was a County Commissioner and on the Board of Trustees that organized the building of the retirement center in Pinedale and served on the Board of Directors. He was the Sublette County Coroner , a member of Lions Club, was a volunteer ambulance driver and and fire fighter for Sublette County. Bob donated land for the first city park in Marbleton and also the land for the Marbleton-Big Piney Clinic.
Bob's interest in the mountains and his desire to make it as accessible as possible to the public gave him the idea to get trails groomed on this side of the Wyoming Range for snowmobile use.
Though Bob put a lot of time and effort into the community, his family always came first. Any free time, Bob spent with his family.
Bob is not only an asset to the community, but he is an exemplary father, husband and friend. His contributions are endless and he truly is an outstanding individual in all respects.
