Brian Pittman was a two-time All-State performer for the Punchers in both track and football. Upon leaving Big Piney, he carried his abilities on to Chadron State College where he played football until a knee injury shortened his playing days. Prior to the injury, Brian was selected as a pre-season All-American for the Division II school going into his last year of eligibility. As a Puncher trackster, this athlete proved to be among the best in the state with his performances. As a junior, Brian took home gold in the 400m dash as well as teaming with others to win the 4X400m relay. In addition, he finished third in the long jump and was a member of the second place 4X100m relay. As a senior, he bettered his performances of the previous year by adding a second gold in the 400m dash. His school record time proved to be the best in the state in all classes and was awarded the prestigious Best of State Award for that event. He added third place finishes in the 100m, 200m, and long jump events that year. As a result, he helped the Punchers to a runner-up place at the Wyoming State Track Meet. As a football player, Brian was the leading rusher for the Punchers for two years and led the team into the state play-offs in each of his last two years. He garnered All-State honors as a running back and defensive back for those years and was selected to represent the South team in the 1996 Shrine Bowl. A serious injury during the practices at the Shrine Bowl eliminated him from action in the game but did not curtail his desire to play. Brian was a walk-on at Chadron State College and, by his junior year, he had earned a scholarship from this football powerhouse. A season ending knee injury ended his career at the Nebraska school. Although Brian did not play basketball, he joined some of his football teammates and supported the basketball teams as a cheerleader on Big Piney's state recognized co-ed cheerleader squad. The group received state-wide recognition and press while performing at the 2A State basketball tournament and possibly helped lead cheerleading to be recognized as a sport in Wyoming through the Wyoming High School Activities Association.
