Tim Thompson graduated from Big Piney High School in 1977 after distinguishing himself as a three sport athlete. As a football player, Tim received SW All-Conference honors for three seasons. As a sophomore he was selected as a defensive end and followed that by being selected as a running back for his junior and senior seasons. In his senior year, Tim skills were recognized by being named to the Class B All-State team. The National Sports' Network also honored him with All-American Honorable Mention status for his senior year's achievements. Tim carried on with his football by competing on scholarship for two years at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. There he was twice honored with Player of the Week accolades and was ranked in the top of the NAIA in punt returns and yards per carry. As a trackster, Tim was twice selected as the Outstanding Track Athlete and earned Class B All-State honors by placing third with a record breaking long jump at the Wyoming State Track Meet. As a basketball player, Tim was awarded the Mr. Basketball Award by his coaches at the end of the season. Tim's involvement with athletics, especially basketball, did not end with his graduation. In 1995, Tim started a career in basketball officiating that culminated with his becoming President of the Wyoming High School Official Association. Over his officiating years, Tim was assigned to fifteen regional tournaments, twelve state tournaments and refereed in no less than six state championship games.
