Graduation in 1983 brought an end to an amazing career not only as an athlete but as an all-around student at Big Piney High School.
Rita Overbeck athletic contribution as a Lady Puncher began as a freshman by being member of the fourth place 200 medley relay team at the Wyoming State Swim Meet. The following year, Miss Overbeck made a big splash on the scene of the state meet by bringing home a gold medal as a member of the 200 Medley Relay team. Later that same day, Overbeck stood alone atop of the award stand by winning individual gold in the 100 Back. Rita continued her winning ways as a junior placing third in the 100 Back, 100 Individual Medley and 200 Medley Relay respectfully. In her final year as a competitive swimmer, Rita Overback again claimed all-state honors by placing second in the 100 Back, followed by a third place finish in the 200IM and a fourth place in the 400 Free Relay. During her four year span, Rita helped the undermanned Puncher swimmers to two third place finishes at the 3A Wyoming State Swim Meet.
As the all-around student as was previously mentioned, Rita can boast of an outstanding music career as well. She was twice named to the prestigious Wyoming All State Band and was awarded the John Phillip Sousa Award as well as the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award while in Big Piney. She later took these talents to Northwest Community College as a scholarship recipient where she performed for their band and jazz band during her years in Powell.
