On a hot late August afternoon in Casper, freshman Jake Greenwood started his first game as a Puncher football player. Forty games later, Greenwood finished his football career on the Puncher field leading a talented team to a Wyoming State Championship. During that four year span, Jake Greenwood established himself as one of the most prolific running backs in Puncher history. Greenwood gained in excess of 3,500 yards during this time and helped the Punchers win thirty-two games in that span. In addition, the Puncher teams won three conference championships and three Wyoming State football championships.
Rushing for yardage was not his only responsibility for the Puncher pigskin team. He also started as a cornerback on defense as well as a return specialist on the kick-offs and punts. Coaches around the conference and state also recognized his abilities by selecting him to the Rocky Mountain All-Conference team twice. At seasons’ end, the Wyoming Coaches Association selected Jake to the All-State team in both his junior and senior years. Jake was also selected to the Casper Star’s Super 25 Team which was inclusive of all classes of Wyoming football. Lastly, Greenwood was selected to represent the Punchers in the Shrine Bowl following his senior season.
During his senior year, Greenwood returned to the hardcourt and played for the Puncher basketball team and helped lead them to a Rocky Mountain Conference Championship.
Throughout his four years, the spring and summer seasons were spent traveling the state as a member of the Big Piney Rodeo team.
Jake joins his father, Jim, in the Big Piney Athletic Hall of Fame ending family bragging rights.
