In 1947, Rod Bennett graduated from Big Piney High School. Since that time, Rod Bennett has given much back to the communities, various organizations and individuals within Sublette County. His generosity has been greatly appreciated by the many people affected by his giving.
Mr. Bennett has been a business owner for over sixty years. He began with Skyline Construction and gradually added the Tire Shop, Ski-Doo Shop, and RS Bennett Construction to his list of businesses. More importantly, Rod Bennett offered start-up assistance to other businesses in our communities: Joe's Concrete, Waller Trucking, Green River Rock and Meadow Canyon Ready Mix are among those businesses that were started with his assistance.
As a community leader, Bennett served on Sublette 9 School Board for nineteen years and was involved with the funding and construction of the existing high school. Rod also served on the Marbleton Town Board for many years. He was also one of the first organizers of Tip Top Search and Rescue. He is a Shriner and served as Master of the Masonic Lodge during his years as a member of that organization.
Rod Bennett's generosity is evident in numerous functions of the communities and of Sublette County including donations made to Chuckwagon Days, Sublette Senior Center, Sublette County Fair and Big Piney High School. Mr. Bennett has made it a point to offer repeated donations of turkeys, hams, and beef to the community food bank for distribution as well as to the Marbleton Senior Center. As well as providing numerous scholarships to students of Big Piney High School since 1967, Rod has also donated regularly to the Boys Scouts of America.
An avid hunter, Rod is a lifetime member of the Big Piney Gun Club and has donated labor and equipment to the organization. His interest in hunting was highlighted by being the oldest person to ever complete the Wild Sheep Foundation's Grand Slam. He did so in 2013 at the age of 83.
One last point of interest in highlighting Rod Bennett's contributions to Big Piney High School, all seven of his children graduated from Big Piney High School as well.
