As a five sport Lady Puncher participant over her four years, Dana Tanner proved herself to be one of the finest athletes to perform at Big Piney High School. As a member of the last Big Piney gymnastic team, Dana might well be the only Puncher to have competed in five sports over a high school career. During her four year career as a volleyball player, Dana led the Lady Punchers to three top three finishes at the state volleyball meets culminating in the first and only state championship in 1977. As a junior, she was selected to the All-Conference team and topped that with a Class B All-State selection as her team finished as the state runner-up. She duplicate her All-State honors as a senior on the undefeated state championship team in 1977. Equally outstanding is Dana's career accomplishments in swimming. Dana earned All-State honors in each of her four years as a Lady Puncher. As a sophomore she set a state record in her championship finish in the 100 yard free. She also had no less than five second place finishes at the state meet over her years and not once was she out of the top six in individual events. As a member of Lady Puncher relay teams, she brought home two more gold medals. As soon as girl's basketball was introduced at Big Piney High School, Dana Tanner was ready for play and three years later, she was selected to the SW Conference All-Tournament team in this newest sport.
