A “True Puncher” is how coach Otto Low described this Big Piney athlete. An outstanding basketball and football player who earned both All-Conference and All-State honors in football as a Puncher. In 1959, Ron Chapin returned four punts for touchdowns in a game against Superior. The game ended in a tie but it did force a play-off with Superior to determine the Southwest Conference Championship and the right to play in the Class B state play-offs. Needless to say, the Punchers won the game and went on to become the 1959 Class B State Champions. Ron's value to the Punchers did not end with his departure. Four of Ron's son wore the Red and White of Punchers teams in the future years, all with great careers of their own.
