Mindi Megown’s career at Big Piney High School began during her sophomore year when her family moved to the area from Nebraska. Upon arrival, Miss Megown became a vital part of the successes of the volleyball and basketball programs. Her athletic success was matched by her academic achievements as Mindi was named the Southwest Administrator’s Student Athlete of the Year in 1988.
As a volleyball player, Megown was a two time All- Conference selection as well as being name Rocky Mountain Conference Player of the Year during her senior year. She helped lead the talented Lady Puncher team to a Wyoming State Tournament Consolation Championship as a junior and to a fourth place finish at the same tournament as a senior. She earned All-State honors during both her junior and senior years.
Mindi’s success as a basketball player were even more impressive. She became the first Lady Puncher to accumulate over a 1000 pts, during a career. She was named to the All-Conference team for three seasons and was named the Rocky Mountain Conference Player of the year as a senior. She matched that by being named to the Wyoming Coaches Association’s 2A All-State team for all three of her seasons as a Puncher. As a junior, she was part of a very impressive team that narrowly missed the Wyoming State Championship by losing a close game in the championship.
Mindi continued her athletic adventures as a basketball player at Chadron State College and added golf as a second, less demanding collegiate sport for the Lady Eagles of Chadron State.
Currently, Mindi is the Athletic Director, Food Service Director and girl’s basketball coach here at Big Piney High School where she continues to be a leader of Big Piney Athletes.
