Steve Hughes
Class of 1991
Graduating in 1991 brought an end to a truly outstanding athletic career for Steve Hughes. During his four years as a student/athlete, young Hughes distinguished himself as an all-around athlete garnering individual and team honors in all sports.

He topped both those honors by being selected to the Wyoming Coaches Association All State Football team in each year. His talented Punchers won conference championships in 1988 and in 1990. Steve was a member of the 1988 Wyoming State Champions and his 1990 team fell just short losing in the state semi-finals. For his abilities, Hughes was selected and played in the 1991 Shrine Bowl.
For Steve Hughes, basketball was just another opportunity to elevate himself as a talented athlete. With his talented teammates, the Punchers won a conference championship in a tough Rocky Mountain Conference. Disappointment of not making a trip to the state tournament was eased a bit by his being named to the Rocky Mountain All-Conference team. No doubt this team player would have traded that honor for a trip to state with his teammates.
Track became a easy sport for Steve to excel. His jumping ability and speed provided the essentials to success in track events. During his four years as a Puncher track athlete, Hughes visited the awards stand a total of thirteen times including gold as a member of the 4X400 relay team. The high jump was his individual favorite and as a junior earned him a trip to the Meet of Champions. His 6’3” high jump was one of the top eight performances in all classifications in Wyoming. Steve help lead the Punchers to two state runner-up finishes as a junior and senior.
Scholastically, Steve Hughes was a member of the National Honor Society. He received numerous WHSAA Academic Awards and held both class and organization offices during his years as a Puncher.
Despite being a busy manager of construction projects, Steve has found time to coach football for his two oldest boys’ team prior to their entering organized school athletics.
