KC Lehr
Class of 1993
Being a firm believer that things happen for a reason, KC Lehr’s life journey began with a move, not a detour, to Big Piney as a fifth-grade student. From that time until graduation in 1993, his parents instilled the morals, ethics, and values to cherish for life. He credits teachers, coaches, and staff for the inspiration and motivation to succeed. He gives accolades to this community for teaching the value of hard work, sacrifice and to always assist those in need.
Accepting a football and baseball scholarship, Lehr found himself at Dakota Wesleyan University on Mitchell, South Dakota. Despite being humbled by athletes who were bigger, faster, and stronger (in his opinion), KC played for two seasons before an injury shorten his athletic career. KC Lehr graduated from Dakota Wesleyan with a major in Criminology. After graduation, Lehr attempted to enlist into the military twice, but he was rejected due to the injury sustained in college. Not being able to serve this country abroad, he decided to serve it domestically in law enforcement.
Karma strikes again, if it weren’t for the military denying his service, KC would not have had the opportunity to fall in love with his wife of over 20 years, Rebecca. KC followed her to Arizona where he attended and graduated from the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy in Phoenix. For the next four years, Officer Lehr served in the Mohave County (AZ) Police force.
In 2003 Lehr accepted a job as an investigator/officer in the Sublette County Sheriff’s Department. He served in that capacity until 2016 when KC Lehr was elected as Sheriff of Sublette County. He will hopefully begin his third term this upcoming year. Presently, Sheriff Lehr has also established himself as a state-wide leader. He is a President -Elect of the Wyoming Sheriff’s Association. Currently, Sheriff Lehr is the Vice President of the Wyoming Association of Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police (WASCOP.)
Finding time, Lehr has offered his services to area schools serving as a WHSAA certified basketball official since 2003. He also serves as a track official and has the honor of being the starter at regional meets in Wyoming. He also volunteers those skills at the Special Olympics’ Games.
KC honors his grandfather for showing him what it is to be a “faithful steward”. He serves witness to Chaplain David Duprey and many of his own colleagues, some of which are gone far too soon, who have showed what a true “warrior for peace” is and to this community who taught him to “pay it forward”.
